Top 5 GTA Games​

With Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon, we thought it was a good time to look back at some of the best games Rockstar has given us over the years. Everyone has their own favourite GTA, but these are our personal top five.

#1 — Grand Theft Auto V​

Released in 2013, GTA V remains the ultimate GTA experience for us. Set around Los Santos and Blaine County, the game gave us three completely different protagonists in Michael, Franklin and Trevor, with their stories coming together in one huge open-world adventure. The introduction of GTA Online also gave the game an incredible lifespan, with the community continuing to play and build their own experiences more than a decade after release.

#2 — Grand Theft Auto III​

GTA III completely changed open-world gaming when it launched in 2001. Liberty City felt enormous at the time, and being able to freely explore the city, steal cars and take on missions in almost any order was revolutionary. It laid much of the groundwork for the modern GTA formula and deserves enormous credit for turning the series into the phenomenon it became.

#3 — Grand Theft Auto: Vice City​

For us, Vice City has one of the strongest personalities in the entire series. Inspired heavily by 1980s Miami, the neon-soaked streets, incredible soundtrack and colourful cast of characters made the city feel completely unique. Tommy Vercetti's rise through the criminal underworld also gave us one of the most memorable stories in the series.

#4 — Grand Theft Auto IV​

GTA IV took the series in a much darker and more serious direction. Niko Bellic's story of arriving in Liberty City looking for the American Dream was a huge departure from the more exaggerated tone of Vice City and San Andreas. The physics, driving and detailed version of Liberty City also made the game feel incredibly immersive, while the characters and story remain some of Rockstar's strongest work.

#5 — Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas​

San Andreas was absolutely massive for its time. With three cities, huge rural areas, customisation, vehicles, properties, gang warfare and an enormous amount of side content, it felt like Rockstar had packed an entire world into one game. CJ's journey through Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas remains one of the most memorable adventures in the series.
