Are gaming subscriptions replacing game ownership?

I think subscriptions are becoming more popular, but they can't fully replace ownership. Subscriptions offer variety for less money upfront, while owning a game means you can keep playing without worrying about it leaving a service.

Yes, we are facing into a digital world. Soon ownership will mean nothing.

I have some bad news for you: game subscriptions have ALREADY replaced game ownership. All your games on Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation, etc., are actually just subscriptions—you paid for a rental, not for the full game as was the case in the past. This means that if any of these platforms were to disappear, you would never be able to play those games again—unless you resort to piracy.
