Do retro games still hold up today?

Are the classics genuinely better than many modern games, or is nostalgia doing some of the work?

yes, sometimes simpler games are better. Take Sonic for example. Basic and straight forward but very enjoyable and lots of replay value. A lot of games these days have too many repetitive actions they become boring.

Nostalgia will always do 'some' of the work but not all of it. I've been playing more retro games than modern games recently. What retro games lack they make up with it in creativity, customization, and by being free now. You want a cool skin you earn it, you don't swipe a credit card. You want to get passed a spot you need to learn it instead of paying someone to get passed it for you, whatever the case be. Old games are also not catered to everyone so each game feels genuinely unique, even if it takes a lot of other games as references it's still it's own thing instead of just asset flips you have now.

I still love the retro arcade games such as Pac Man, Snake, Tetris etc.

As for video games I would rather play something such as Spyro the Dragon over half of today's games.

Heck yeah! If you're ever around the area you can always come over and play my Pacman arcade, or my motorcycle arcade :ROFLMAO: What's your favorite Spyro?

Are you paying for my flights from New Zealand? :p

It was too long ago to remember. It was the PS2 era. I made the stupid mistake of getting an X-Box a couple years ago instead of a Playstation and I was wondering where all the Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Ratchet and Clank type games were.

My favorite part of Spyro is that he is generally voiced by Tom Kenny. One of my favorite voice actors :D

Yes—if that weren’t the case, emulators wouldn’t exist, right? The same goes for those consoles that keep popping up—the ones capable of emulating everything from the PS1 to even the PS2. If they weren’t relevant, nobody would buy such consoles or use emulators on their PCs. So, yes, they remain relevant, even if they aren’t "popular"—which makes sense, given that there’s no advertising for them like there is for new games.
